Cairns North – suburb profile

The Cairns North area is highly urbanised in nature, although its eastern edge is mangroves and coastline. It is a mixed-use and activities, including commerce, residential housing, recreation, natural environment, and light industry. The Cairns International Airport is situated in Cairns North and is part of the Cairns Regional Council.

There is a significant amount of tourist accommodation including The Lakes Resort in the area plus many residential home owners. 

Cairns North has a number of community services and facilities including North Cairns Sports Reserve and tennis courts, and a number of parklands including Apex Park. Tobruk Memorial Swimming Pool is in this area and Cairns City Library is about 5mins south of Cairns North. The Cairns Esplanade public space and boardwalk includes a children’s playground, a children’s water park and a skate park. All are within walking distance of the city centre. 

Cairns North has a full range of medical & dental services including pathology labs, x-ray & scanning services, 24 hour medical clinics and a plastic surgeon.
