Cairns property View – June 2019

The general consensus from other Cairns business owners I have spoken to recently agree that the Federal Election did stall the economic activity in Cairns noticeably. The good news is that the only way from here is upwards

Even better news, especially for the property market in that late in May Australia’s banking regulator announced its plans to relax the assessment rate for home loans. This effectively means homeowners could borrow more money, which industry figures are describing as the biggest development for the property market  “in at least four years”.

cairns property_july 2019Propertyology managing director Simon Pressley said the significance of this announcement could not be understated and would affect all Australians, whether they were buying property or not. He went on to say this would have significant impacts for both the property market and the economy.

Domain economist Trent Wiltshire said the proposal would have a “definite impact” on property markets across the country, particularly those that have been in a downturn. He also stated it will see the market turn around “faster than we anticipated”.

Speaking more locally, it’s good news for those heading to the city on the weekends as from now the CBD parking will be FREE from 2pm on Saturday and all day on Sunday.
